Advice for survey development

In order to optimize the processing and data analysis, we need to ensure the functionality of the questionnaire, reflecting its design in the structure of the database; as well as the consistent coding of the questionnaire with the nomenclature of variables and categories.

We develop the questions based on the objectives of the study. Thus, such questionnaires include all the necessary information, with a sufficient level of detail, to be able to carry out the corresponding statistical analysis.

We ensure that the categories of the questions meet the principles of integrity and mutual exclusion. We carry out the coding of variables and categories in a coherent way to ensure the development of the database is optimal and the subsequent data analysis can be done without any limitation.

Once we have all the needed information we develop the survey questionnaire.

If you have an already developed survey, for an optimum data handling and to ensure that throughout the entire statistical analysis you can get the desired results as accurately as possible, our experts can perform an integral revision of your survey before you start the data collection, including:

  •  Ensure that the category values meet the principles of completeness and mutual exclusion.
  •  Check the correspondence between the names of variables and the codes for questions, the options in questions and the category codes.
  •  Provide a convenient coding of categories to facilitate the programming and optimize the later statistical analysis.
  •  Correspondence control in skip-questions.
  •  Check if the questions in the questionnaire provide all the needed information to build indicators when required (i.e. for Nutrition: questions for IYCF indicators from WHO and UNICEF last series recommendations).
  •  In case that you have already provided us with the required table shells for data analysis, we can make a cross control between the questions in the questionnaire and the dummy tables information requests.
